Be Still & Embrace the Presence of The Living God
Being Still and Welcoming the Lord’s Presence
The world around us is in constant motion, the rapid pace of life, and the pressure to always be “on.” The virtues of patience and stillness are often lost and overlooked as digital mediums increasingly deliver instant gratification to capture the attention of the masses. As believers of Christ, we are reminded that these virtues are all the more important as they guide us to a deeper communion with the Lord.
Patience: A Timeless Virtue
The virtue of patience isn’t about idly waiting. It’s an active form of endurance, a trust that things will unfold in their rightful time. It’s intertwined with faith – a deep-seated belief that God’s plans and timings are perfect, even when they don’t align with our own schedules.
Scripture offers us many examples of patience. Think of Abraham and Sarah, who waited decades for the promised child. Joseph, who endured years of hardship before ascending to a position where he could save his people. And Job, who persevered through immense suffering, all the while keeping the faith.
We must never demand immediate gratification from the Lord, because He works in His eternal capacity. Remember that our journey is shaped
Being Still in a Noisy World
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
– Psalm 46:10
But what does it mean to “be still”? It doesn’t just refer to just physical stillness, but rather that of quieting the soul to experience the presence of the Lord. It is a call to step back, to find moments of respite and reflection amidst our bustling lives.
Being still is an invitation to disconnect from the external noise and reconnect with the Divine. It’s a space where we can listen more intently, pray more deeply, and feel God’s presence more acutely.
Welcoming the Lord in Silence
In 1 Kings 19:11-13, when God revealed Himself to Elijah, it was not in the powerful wind, the earthquake, or the fire – instead God spoke in a gentle whisper. This passage underscores a profound truth: God often comes to us in silence, in moments of deep introspection and quietude.
By cultivating patience and practicing the art of being still, we create a spiritual environment where we are more receptive to God’s whispers. This isn’t about passive inaction but about actively creating space for God in our lives.
Embracing the Journey
Having patience and being still doesn’t mean life will suddenly become easy or that all our prayers will be answered immediately. Instead, it promises something more profound. As we wait, as we embrace stillness, we’re transformed. Our relationship with God deepens, our faith solidifies, and we’re better equipped to handle the trials and tribulations of life.
In the end, the journey itself becomes as important, if not more so, than the destination. By choosing patience and stillness, we’re choosing to walk hand in hand with the Lord, trusting that He will guide us, support us, and speak to us when we make room for Him in the silent chambers of our hearts.
